Chairman

Shri Nand Lal Sharma took over as Chairman of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission on 02.02.2024. Prior to this, Shri Sharma was serving as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN, a Central  Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, for more than six years. He is enriched with more than 34 years of experience in the administration and Power Sector. He holds Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics (M.Sc) as well as in Business Administration (M.B.A).

He started his career as Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services Officer in the year 1989 and till 2008 worked in various capacities like Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Secretary, H.P. State Electricity Board; Land Acquisition Collector; Commissioner (Workmen Compensation); Special Secretary (GAD & SAD) to the Govt. of HP; Director of Ayurveda and Special Secretary (Health) to the Govt. of HP. 

He was on deputation to SJVN as Executive Director from 2008 to 2011. In March 2011, he joined SJVN as Director (Personnel). His tenure in Human Resources witnessed the conception and effective implementation of various HR initiatives. He was conferred with HR Leadership Award by Global HR Excellence Awards for establishing a robust Performance Management System in the Company. He also guided the SJVN CSR foundation, in the capacity of its Chairman, leading with the conviction that an organization’s growth is truly meaningful when shared with society.

Shri Sharma took over as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) in December 2017. Under his dynamic leadership, SJVN has emerged as a global leader in the renewable energy sector. SJVN became a truly diversified ‘Mini Ratna’ central public sector undertaking with operation and construction of projects in India and Nepal with multidimensional focus on Hydel Power, Thermal Power, Wind and Solar energy generation, Transmission and consultation, setting ambitious target of achieving 25000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50000 MW by 2040. His unwavering dedication to excellence has been instrumental in propelling SJVN to unprecedented heights. 

In recognition of his exemplary contribution in the field of Administration and Power Sector, Sh. Nand Lal Sharma has been conferred with numerous prestigious awards. Government of Nepal has felicitated him twice for his relentless efforts in the development of hydro power in Nepal and strengthening bilateral ties between India & Nepal. Over the years, he has received several  recognitions; Leading Director Awards 2023’ by Greentech Foundation, ‘CBIP Individual Award’ for outstanding contribution for development of the Water, Power & RE Sector, ‘Prestigious CEO with HR Orientation Award’ by ET Now; ‘PSU Award of the Year’ by Dalal Street Investment Journal for his outstanding contribution in making SJVN most efficient & profitable Mini Ratna Company in the year 2020 & 2021; “CEO of the Year Award’ by  Global CSR Excellence and Leadership Awards.  

As Chairman HERC, his focus is to to allay the difficulties faced by the stakeholders including electricity consumers while ensuring the larger penetration of renewable energy.
